The Pioneer Library System Foundation invites the community to its third annual fundraiser, Literally Yours, from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 7 at LOCAL, the Norman restaurant concept that prepares seasonal, locally-sourced Oklahoma fare, located at 2262 W. Main Street.
Patterned after the Patrón Social Club, the evening of literature, libations and culinary creations will feature Wild West fare by Executive Chef Kyle Mills paired with cocktails crafted by Barkeep Dana Nixon Miller. All food and drink will be created especially for the evening. Join us as we celebrate the PLS 2014 Big Read novel True Grit and meet Rooster Cogburn, Mattie Ross and LaBoeuf, the Texas Ranger. Music will be provided by Bob French with other entertainment in store.
Chef Mills honed his skills in San Francisco after completing his training at Cordon Bleu in Phoenix. Upon returning to his native Oklahoma, he spent three years as sous chef at Nonna’s in Bricktown followed by three years as executive chef at RED Prime Steak in Oklahoma City.
Inaugurated in 2011 with the one-act play “Strange Business,” written and performed by author Rilla Askew and actor Paul Austin, Literally Yours is an upscale evening of food, drink and literature created to raise awareness and funding for the PLS Foundation. During FY 2012-2013 the Foundation helped support the 2013Summer Reading Program in all 10 PLS branch libraries, in addition to the PLS Big Read featuring author Tobias Wolff.
Tickets are $100 each and are available only through the PLS Foundation. Of that ticket price, $40 qualifies as a tax-deductible gift to the Foundation. The value of in-kind or monetary contributions may be eligible for tax credit as donations to a nonprofit organization.
