APRIL 2012
Combine a world-renowned author, a delicious brunch and a first-class experience and it makes for a special morning at a one-of-a-kind program hosted by the Pioneer Library System Foundation. The Foundation will feature award-winning author Amy Tan at a brunch at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at Moore-Norman Technology Conference Center South Penn Campus, 13400 S. Pennsylvania Ave. The event caps off the Pioneer Library System’s sixth edition of the PLS Big Read, a community-wide series of reading, programming and activities centered around a work of literature. Ms. Tan’s novel “The Joy Luck Club” was the featured book in this year’s PLS Big Read.
“We are looking forward to our first-ever fundraiser in support of the PLS Big Read, and are excited to be able to bring in such a celebrated author as Amy Tan,” said James Chappel, PLS Foundation board president. “Our staff has planned a wonderful morning of literature and culture with a writer whose works have resonated throughout our community.”
Individual tickets are $50, $75 or $100 apiece, or they may be purchased in tables of six for $300, $450 or $600 each.
Before hearing a special presentation by the author, guests will enjoy a brunch featuring vegetarian quiche, an oriental salad, assorted fruit, muffins and more. Guests also will be able to go home with several commemorative items from the brunch, including a book plate autographed by Amy Tan, a copy of her collected essays, “The Opposite of Fate: A Book of Musings,” and a monogrammed stemmed glass.
The venue at MNTC is next door to the Pioneer Library System’s 10th, and newest, branch library. The Southwest Oklahoma City Public Library opened March 1 and is the first PLS facility to be located within the city limits of Oklahoma City.
The Pioneer Library System Foundation was established in 2010 and provides advocacy and financial support to enrich the present and enhance the future of the Pioneer Library System. This is accomplished through grants, direct donor solicitation, the Founding Donor campaign and the fall fundraising evening, Literally Yours.
